We had a very rushed yet productive morning yesterday during FLEX! The schoolwide composting program has been running in the cafe for a few weeks now and we are seeing lots of students really getting involved and discarding their trash properly. There are still a bunch of mistakes however, so in order to try and simplify the process and lessen the mistakes being made, the Garden Club decorated 2 lids that are going to be placed over the bin. We also restructured the Sort Lines so that there were less options for discarding trash. Right now, it is only "compost", "Recycle", and "trash".
The early reports are that the number of trays and milk cartons in the compost bins have been reduced, however there are still some trays in there. This is remarkable because the hole is not large enough to fit a tray through it!
We are going to keep brainstorming ways to reduce the mistakes that are being made. In the meantime, for those of you who are paying attention, we thank you.
