The students and staff at SIS have recently begun composting the cafeteria food waste. The bins are being built and soon the food waste will be collected and on it's way to becoming "black gold" that will be used in the garden.
Mid January Update: The composting has been in full swing for a while now and we are on our way. There is a dedicated team of students that have been diligently emptying the compost barrels and filling the bins daily. This is what it looks like now. Check back in a few months to see the finished product.
The first section is complete.
The first section of the compost bins has been completed and is quickly filling up with organic goodness from the cafe. When this first bin is filled up, students will transfer the material to the next section and begin filling up the first section again. By the time it makes it to the last section, we should have that "Black Gold" that we are after.
Look at all that great organic material that is well on it's way to becoming a nutrient rich compost that we can use in the garden this fall.
